The Arcs

The Netflix documentary Making a Murderer has inspired a presidential petition, a late-night parody, and plenty of impassioned amateur sleuthing.

Now, it's also inspired a rock song.

On Wednesday, a band called The Arcs released "Lake Superior," a song that responds to the unfairness of the criminal justice system depicted in Making a Murderer, per Stereogum. A taste of the lyrics: "Your alibi will never do/When the whole town's got it out for you."

The cover art for the track really does look like a psychedelic vinyl album, featuring a photo of young Steven Avery from the time of his arrest for the rape of Penny Ann Beernsten. That conviction was later overturned after DNA testing exonerated Avery.

The Arcs is led by Dan Auerbach, who is better known for his work with rock band The Black Keys. According to the band's Soundcloud account, the song was recorded after "[a] few sleepless nights" and all proceeds from sales will support the Innocence Project.
