I never expected to wake up early on a Saturday to watch Karl Rove speak at an event, just like I never expected to hear a lone flautist playing "Hotline Bling" on the flute from dozens of yards away as I made my way through Central Park.

Rove was one of many public figures booked to headline OZY Fusion Fest: a one-day festival at Central Park's Rumsey Playfield on Saturday, July 23, organized by Fusion Media Group and OZY Media, Inc. The event featured food by celebrity chef Alex Guarnaschelli, live music from ChocQuibTown and Andra Day, speaking appearances by Issa Rae of HBO's upcoming Insecure and Broad City's Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, and more—like a Q&A with Karl Rove.

"Donald Trump is an underdog," Rove, who served as George W. Bush's senior political advisor for seven of the former president's eight years in office, told interviewer and OZY CEO Carlos Watson at one point. Abbi and Ilana from Broad City shared their own thoughts on the GOP presidential hopeful later in the day, telling festival attendees that "it's really scary [how Donald Trump is] rallying racists and sexists and homophobes" to try to win the White House.

Bush's "architect" added that he's "waiting for Occupy Hollywood" because Taylor Swift makes more money than the CEOs of the top six banks in the United States. He also noted that Sen. Ted Cruz will most likely "pay a price" for not endorsing Donald Trump's presidential campaign at the Republican National Convention earlier this week. Rove closed with an adequate George W. Bush impression.

This is "not exactly Karl Rove's crowd," Sen. Cory Booker said as he took the stage next before suggesting that we give Bush's "architect" a hand.
